10-Day Northern Circuit Safari

Tanzania safari
Half bush, half beach, with the safari running in one direction only. You start in Arusha among coffee farms, drive out to the Ngorongoro Crater, cross the Serengeti to its far northern corner, and then board a small plane to Zanzibar. No backtracking, no repeat roads, and the beach comes at the end, exactly when you will want it.
The safari part lasts five nights in luxury lodges and camps. You spend a full day on the crater floor, two nights in the central Serengeti and one night in a camp in the north, the area the wildebeest herds usually reach in the dry months of roughly July to October. Day 1 is gentle too, with a coffee farm tour and a visit to a craft workshop near Arusha where local artisans, many of them living with disabilities, turn recycled glass into jewelry and homeware.
Then come four nights at an all-inclusive luxury resort on Zanzibar, where meals and drinks are covered and the days are yours. Tanzania Tourism Safaris arranges a welcome of bubbly, fruit or flowers, a private breakfast and a lantern-lit dinner for the two of you.
A member of our team meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drives you to Arusha, under an hour away, with Mount Meru above the town. After you settle in, visit a social-enterprise workshop where local artisans, many with disabilities, make glassware and beads from recycled glass. Then walk through a coffee farm with a guide who explains how the beans are grown, picked, dried and roasted, and finish with a tasting.
Leave Arusha after breakfast and head west to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the crater, the collapsed cone of an ancient volcano and now a natural refuge for wildlife, and spend the day on its floor. Look for black rhino, elephants with heavy tusks, lions and pink flamingos on the soda lake. If you would like to end the day with a walk on the rim, sundowners or a wine tasting, these can be arranged at extra cost.
Drive on through the highlands and down onto the Serengeti plains, game-viewing as you go. At your lodge, the team helps you plan your time in the park. You can split the days into a sunrise drive and a late-afternoon drive, or stay out all day with a picnic. Couples who want more can add a dawn balloon flight, a guided walk, a night drive where allowed, or a visit to a Maasai community, all at extra cost.
Have an early breakfast and spend the whole day out with your guide and vehicle. The central Serengeti is a good place for big cats, with lions on the rocky kopjes, leopards in the trees along the rivers and cheetahs scanning the open grass. Lunch is set out somewhere scenic on the savanna. Back at the lodge, there is time for a shower and a drink before dinner, and the night sounds of the bush.
Today you travel north, game-driving through changing landscapes to a camp in the northern Serengeti. From about July to October, this is usually where the wildebeest herds graze, and they sometimes pass close to camp. In other months, the north is quieter and still home to resident lions, elephants and buffalo. In the evening, enjoy a drink by the campfire and dinner under the stars, a long way from the rest of the world.
Head out early for one last game drive, then return for a proper breakfast. Your guide drives you to the airstrip and says goodbye as you board a scheduled flight to Zanzibar. From the air, the brown plains give way to green hills and finally the blue of the Indian Ocean. A driver meets you on the island and takes you to your beach resort, where meals and drinks are now included.
After five early starts on safari, today there is no alarm. Take your time over breakfast, find two loungers under the palms and go for a swim whenever it gets too warm. The water around Zanzibar is warm all year, and at low tide the shallows are good for long walks. With everything included, lunch and drinks arrive whenever you want them. Finish the day with a sunset drink on the sand.
Many of Zanzibar’s beaches are protected by coral reefs offshore, which keeps the water calm for swimming and snorkeling. Ask the resort about a snorkeling trip or a sail in a traditional dhow, and look for colorful reef fish and, with luck, a turtle. If your resort has a spa, this is a good afternoon for a treatment for two. Dinner tonight could be the private lantern-lit meal that is part of your honeymoon touches.
Spend your last full day as you like. If you are curious about the island’s history, an optional trip to Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, shows you narrow lanes, carved wooden doors and busy markets. If not, there is no need to leave the resort at all: read, swim, sleep and enjoy one more slow evening by the ocean. Either way, keep some time for packing before dinner.
Enjoy a final breakfast and say goodbye to the resort staff. At the agreed time, a driver takes you to Zanzibar’s international airport for your flight home or onward. If your flight leaves late in the day, ask us before you travel about a late check-out so you can keep your room a little longer. Our team stays reachable until you are on your way.

The herds usually reach the north from about July to October, though their timing changes from year to year with the rains. If you travel in those months, your night in the north puts you close to them. At other times, the north is quiet but still has resident wildlife, and we can suggest a different camp that suits your dates.
The crater lies between Arusha and the Serengeti, so seeing it on the way in lets the safari keep moving in one direction. You end at an airstrip in the Serengeti and fly straight to Zanzibar, which avoids a long drive back to Arusha and gives you more time at the beach.
A scheduled light aircraft flies from a Serengeti airstrip to Zanzibar, sometimes with a stop on the way. The flight is included. Small planes have strict baggage limits, so bring soft bags rather than hard suitcases. A driver meets you at Zanzibar’s airport and takes you to your resort.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
Had a wonderful Safari experience in Nothern Tanzania. Got to see some Lions very closely. Best experience in a very long time tbh.
It was an amazing experience!
