10-Day Safari & Sea Honeymoon

Tanzania safari
This ten-day trip pairs a compact northern safari with a long, easy stretch on the beach. It suits travelers who want to see the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater properly but would rather spend their remaining days swimming than sitting in a vehicle.
After a night in Arusha, you travel west over the Ngorongoro highlands, stopping at Olduvai Gorge, one of the world’s most important sites for the study of human origins, before entering the Serengeti. Two nights at a tented camp give you a full day on the plains. On the way back you sleep on the Ngorongoro Crater rim, explore the crater floor the next morning, and fly to Zanzibar the same afternoon.
The beach stay is on the island’s northeast coast, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Accommodation mixes upscale hotels with comfortable tented camps, which keeps the cost moderate for a trip of this length. Tanzania Tourism Safaris takes care of the domestic flight, park fees and every airport transfer, and solo travelers are welcome to book.
Land at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where your driver is waiting with your name on a board. The transfer to Arusha takes under an hour, past banana farms and roadside markets, with Mount Meru ahead on clear days. Check in and rest in the hotel gardens after the long flight. Use the evening to repack for the road: a soft bag is the easiest kind to fit in a safari vehicle. Dinner is at the hotel.
Leave Arusha early for a long but varied day on the road. The route climbs through the Ngorongoro highlands, then drops to the dry plains below. Stop at Olduvai Gorge, where a small museum explains the fossils and stone tools found in its layers, and, if you wish, visit a nearby Maasai village. Enter the Serengeti in the afternoon and game drive to your tented camp, arriving in time for a hot shower and dinner.
With no move to make today, every hour can go to wildlife. Head out at sunrise, when lions and cheetahs are most active, and cover as much ground as you like. Your guide will check the kopjes, the rivers and the areas where the herds are grazing at this time of year. Take a picnic lunch to stay out all day, or come back to camp to rest and go out again in the late afternoon.
Use the cool early hours for a last half-day game drive in the Serengeti. Then drive southeast toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, watching for wildlife as you leave the park. The road climbs onto the highlands, and the air cools quickly. Your overnight is on the crater rim, where on a clear day you look down into the caldera roughly 600 m (2,000 ft) below. Bring a fleece for the evening.
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater after an early breakfast for a game drive of about six hours. Look for black rhino, lions, hyenas, buffalo and the flamingos that gather at the soda lake. After lunch, you can stop at a Maasai village on the way out. Then transfer for the one-hour flight to Zanzibar, where a driver takes you to your beach resort in time for dinner.
After four busy days, the pace drops. The northeast coast faces the sunrise, and its long white beaches have a wide tide that draws the water far out in the morning and brings it back later in the day. Walk the flats at low tide and look for starfish in the shallow pools, then swim when the sea returns. Lunch and dinner are at the resort, so there is nothing to organize.
If you want a change from the beach, today suits an excursion. A spice farm tour lets you taste cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla straight from the plant and learn why Zanzibar earned the name Spice Island. Alternatively, spend the day in Stone Town, the old quarter of Zanzibar City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with an optional boat ride to Prison Island and its giant tortoises. These trips are optional extras.
The reef off the northeast coast is close enough for half-day trips. Snorkelers can join a boat to a nearby reef or to Mnemba Atoll, and certified divers can book with a local dive center. If you prefer to stay near the surface, a sea kayak or a short sail on a traditional dhow is a quieter way to enjoy the coast. Afternoons are free for the pool, a book and a long swim at high tide.
Spend your last full day exactly as you like. Many travelers keep it simple: a late breakfast, a walk along the sand, a final swim and a cold drink as the light fades. If you have not done so yet, there is still time for a short outing, such as a village walk, or a massage if your resort offers one. Enjoy a final dinner by the sea and the sound of the Indian Ocean on your last evening.
Enjoy breakfast and a last swim. Check-out is around midday, but your bags can be stored if your flight leaves later, so you can stay on the beach until it is time to go. A private transfer takes you to Zanzibar’s international airport, and our team is available around the clock if anything about your flight changes. Safari njema, Swahili for “have a good journey,” and safe travels.
Per person in US dollars. The price depends on when you travel and how many travelers share the trip.

Both last ten days and end on Zanzibar, but this trip spends fewer days on safari, skips Tarangire and Lake Manyara, and mixes upscale hotels with comfortable tented camps instead of staying in luxury lodges throughout. That keeps the cost down. If those extra parks or a higher level of lodging matter to you, the luxury version is the better fit.
Yes, day 2 is the longest day on the road, a full day from Arusha to the Serengeti. It is broken up by the climb over the Ngorongoro highlands, a stop at Olduvai Gorge and an optional Maasai village visit, and the last stretch is a game drive inside the park. The other drives on this trip are shorter.
Yes. A single traveler can book it, although the per-person cost is higher when you travel alone. The from price of $2,758 applies to a group of six in the March to May low season. June to October and the Christmas and New Year period are the busiest and most expensive times to go.
Yes. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included at the beach resort on each full day there, and breakfast on the day you leave. Ask us whether drinks are part of the meal plan at the resort booked for you, as this differs between properties.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
Had a wonderful Safari experience in Nothern Tanzania. Got to see some Lions very closely. Best experience in a very long time tbh.
It was an amazing experience!
