7-Day Nungwi Beach Week After Safari

Beach holiday
Celebrating something? An anniversary, a honeymoon, a milestone birthday or simply a year that deserves a reward, this week is designed for two people who want to spend it together with as little interruption as possible.
You stay six nights in Jambiani, a fishing and seaweed-farming village on Zanzibar’s southeast coast. The beach is long and white, the water is a pale turquoise, and the pace is far slower than in the busy north. Your room is a castaway-style chalet with a thatched roof, built in a rustic way but fitted with the comforts of a good hotel. A special welcome waits when you arrive.
Meals, drinks and the activities in your package are covered, along with a private vehicle and a team on call around the clock. Days can be as lazy or as lively as you like: snorkeling and scuba diving on the reef, windsurfing and kayaking in the lagoon, fly fishing, or a massage for two in the shade. There is no group tour to catch and no early alarm. Tanzania Tourism Safaris meets you at the airport and drives you back at the end, and the days in between are entirely yours.
Your driver meets you at Zanzibar’s international airport and takes you southeast across the island, past small farms and the edge of the island’s forested interior, to Jambiani. A couples’ welcome is set up in your chalet. Spend the rest of the day settling in: a walk on the beach, a swim when the tide is high, and a first dinner together as the coast goes quiet for the night.
On this coast the ocean sets the timetable. At high tide the lagoon fills right up to the sand and is perfect for swimming; at low tide it drains far out, and you can walk across the flats to see village women tending their seaweed plots. Take a morning stroll along the shore, swim when the water returns, and keep the afternoon free for reading or a nap in the shade.
Head out to the reef that runs offshore from Jambiani. Snorkelers can float above coral and reef fish in clear water, while certified divers can go deeper. If one of you has always wanted to learn, ask about a diving course. Lucky swimmers may spot a sea turtle along the way. Return for a late lunch and spend the evening on your chalet’s veranda.
The southeast coast catches a steady breeze for much of the year, which makes it good for windsurfing. Try a session on the lagoon, or take a kayak out together at high tide. Anglers can try fly fishing in the shallows. If you would rather rest, a beach lounger and a cold drink are never far away. In the evening, ask for dinner to be served by candlelight near the water.
Book a massage for two and let the morning drift by. After lunch, take a walk through Jambiani village with its coral-stone houses and small shops, greeting people with a friendly “jambo.” Dress modestly in the village as a mark of respect, covering shoulders and knees. Return to the beach to watch the fishermen bring their wooden boats in during the late afternoon.
Make your final full day count in whatever way suits you. Repeat a favorite activity, take one more swim on the high tide, or try something new, such as a short drive south to Kizimkazi, known for boat trips to look for dolphins, which we can arrange on request. Wake early if you can: this coast faces east, and the sunrise over the Indian Ocean is worth the effort.
Enjoy your last tropical breakfast and take a final look at the lagoon from your veranda. When it is time, your private vehicle collects you from the chalet for the road transfer back to Zanzibar’s international airport. If the week has left you wanting more, extra nights in Jambiani or a short safari on the mainland can be added before you travel.

It is a strong choice for couples who value quiet over nightlife. The village coast is calm, the chalets feel private, and there are no crowds on the beach. Couples who want bars and a livelier evening scene are usually happier in the north, around Nungwi or Kendwa.
Not always. The southeast coast has big tides, and at low tide the water can retreat a long way. Plan swims around high tide and use the low-tide hours for walks on the flats, village visits or the pool. Your hosts can tell you each day’s tide times.
The package covers meals, drinks and its listed activities, and we will confirm exactly which activities are included when we send your quote. Snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, kayaking and fly fishing are all available at Jambiani; a full diving certification course may carry an extra charge.
Yes, and many couples do. A few days in Tarangire, the Serengeti or the Ngorongoro Crater before the beach makes a well-balanced trip. We can arrange the flight from Arusha to Zanzibar so you arrive in Jambiani the same day.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
Had a wonderful Safari experience in Nothern Tanzania. Got to see some Lions very closely. Best experience in a very long time tbh.
