Tanzania safari
Four of northern Tanzania’s best-known parks, one private vehicle and one guide who stays with you the whole way: that is the shape of this honeymoon. You travel by road, at an easy pace, through some of the most varied country in East Africa, and you finish with a short flight out of the Serengeti instead of a long drive back.
The trip opens slowly. After a night in Arusha you spend two nights in Tarangire, a park of giant baobabs and big elephant herds, in a luxury camp or lodge. Lake Manyara follows, with a picnic above the water, then a full day on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater and two nights on the Serengeti’s central plains. The final flight can take you back to Kilimanjaro Airport or straight on to Zanzibar if you want to add time on the beach.
Along the way, Tanzania Tourism Safaris adds a few honeymoon touches: bubbly, fruit or flowers to welcome you, a private breakfast and a lantern-lit dinner. Local beer, wine and soft drinks are served with meals on safari.
A driver meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport for the drive of roughly an hour to Arusha. On a clear day, look out for Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru along the way. If you land early, there is time to watch birds in the hotel garden, join a coffee-tasting tour on a nearby estate, browse a local market or just lie by the pool. Dinner is at the hotel, and the safari begins in the morning.
After an unhurried breakfast, meet the guide who will drive you for the rest of the trip. The road runs southwest through small farms and Maasai grazing land, and Tarangire’s gate is about two to two and a half hours from Arusha. From there you game-drive to your camp. Watch for elephants, giraffes and zebras among the baobabs, and settle in for the first of two nights in the park.
A full day in Tarangire, with your own vehicle and nobody else’s timetable. In the dry months the Tarangire River draws animals from far around, and elephant families come down to drink and dig in the sand. Lions, buffalo, impala and many kinds of birds are common too. Your guide may suggest a drive out at dawn, a rest at camp in the heat of the day, and a second drive as the sun goes down.
Leave early and game-drive north through Tarangire to the gate, then head west toward Lake Manyara National Park. The park is a narrow strip between a steep rift wall and an alkaline lake, with groundwater forest near the entrance. Over a picnic lunch looking across the water, look for flamingos, buffalo, zebras and elephants; Manyara’s lions are known for resting in trees, though sightings are never certain. In the afternoon, drive on to your lodge.
Set off early to be among the first vehicles down the crater wall, when the floor is quiet and the animals are busy. Take coffee and breakfast in the crater, then spend the day exploring its grassland, swamps and soda lake. Lunch can be beside a hippo pool. The crater is home to lions, elephants, buffalo and one of Tanzania’s few populations of black rhino. Late in the day, drive back up to your lodge on the rim.
After breakfast, your guide drives you across the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and down onto the short-grass plains of the Serengeti. Gazelles, zebras and wildebeest are often seen along the way, and the views open up as you descend. You reach your lodge in the central Serengeti in time for lunch overlooking the grassland. Rest for a few hours, then head out for a first afternoon drive in this famous park.
Spend your last full day exploring the central Serengeti, where rivers lined with trees and rocky outcrops called kopjes break up the plains. Lions often use the kopjes as lookouts, and leopards rest in the branches along the water. Take a picnic so you can stay out through the day, or come back to the lodge for lunch. In the evening, raise a glass to the end of your safari together.
After breakfast, your guide takes you to the nearest airstrip for a scheduled light-aircraft flight. Depending on your plans, the plane takes you to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home, or to Zanzibar for a beach stay. These flights often stop at other airstrips to drop off and collect passengers, so expect to land around midday. Pack in a soft bag, as small planes have limited space.

Most short safaris give Tarangire a single afternoon. Two nights let you settle in at the start of the trip and see the park at its best, early and late in the day, when elephants come to the river. It also gives you a gentle opening before the longer days in the crater and the Serengeti.
No. The vehicle and guide are yours for the whole safari, from Tarangire to the Serengeti airstrip. That means you set the pace: stay longer at a sighting, skip a stop or ask for an early start. The same guide drives you every day, so by the end of the trip you know each other well.
Yes. The flight on day 8 can take you to Zanzibar rather than back to Kilimanjaro, which makes it easy to add a beach stay. The flight is part of the price; the beach hotel is not. Tell us how many nights you would like and the style of place, and we will add it to your quote.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
