8-Day Calving Season Safari
Arusha Tarangire Lake Manyara Ndutu Serengeti Ngorongoro

Tanzania safari
This eight-day loop through northern Tanzania gives the Serengeti the time it deserves. Instead of rushing in and out, you spend three nights in the central plains, with two full days to follow lions, cheetahs and the big herds wherever your guide finds them. The rest of the route covers the classic stops: Tarangire’s elephants and baobabs, a night on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, a full day on the crater floor and a final morning around Lake Manyara.
The pace is steady rather than hurried. Most driving days are two to three hours, broken up by game viewing, and every evening ends at a comfortable lodge or tented camp. Upscale properties are used in Arusha, the Serengeti and on the crater rim, with good mid-range tented and lodge stays in between.
Tanzania Tourism Safaris runs the trip privately in a 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and an English-speaking local guide, so you set the rhythm: early starts for the cats, long lunches when it’s hot, extra time at a sighting you don’t want to leave.
Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport for the transfer of roughly an hour to Arusha. After check-in, you sit down with our team for a full safari briefing: the route, what to pack in your day bag, and how game drives work. The rest of the day is yours to rest off the flight, walk in the hotel gardens or swim, with Mount Meru rising behind the town.
After breakfast, drive about two hours to Tarangire National Park. The park is known for its large elephant herds and for giant baobab trees that make even a bull elephant look small. In the dry months, animals gather along the Tarangire River, so expect zebra, giraffe, buffalo and impala, with a chance of lion and leopard. Birders will want binoculars ready all day. You reach your tented lodge in the late afternoon.
Today you climb into the Ngorongoro Highlands, pausing at a viewpoint on the crater rim for your first look into the caldera. The road then drops onto the open grasslands and reaches the Serengeti at Naabi Hill Gate, where you stop for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, drive past granite kopjes toward the central Serengeti, game viewing as you go, and settle into your lodge or camp for three nights.
The central Serengeti holds wildlife all year, and it is well known for its big cats. Head out early, when lions are still active and cheetahs start scanning the plains. Your guide follows the action, so the day might mean waiting by a kopje for a leopard to move or tracking a herd of wildebeest and zebra. Lunch is at camp or a picnic in the bush, depending on where the game is.
A second full day lets you go deeper or slow down. Some travelers spend it on one long drive with a packed lunch, others prefer a dawn outing, a rest at camp through the midday heat and a late-afternoon drive into sunset. Depending on the month, the migrating herds may be close by. Either way, the river valleys and rocky outcrops of the central plains keep producing sightings.
Enjoy one last morning game drive in the Serengeti, then start back toward the highlands, watching for wildlife along the way. In the afternoon, stop at a Maasai village to meet a family, see how their homes are built and learn a little about daily life with cattle. You reach your accommodation on the crater rim in time to watch the light fade over the caldera from the edge.
After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day on its floor. The grasslands, swamps and soda lake support buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, hippo and lion, and the crater is one of the most reliable places in Tanzania to spot the rare black rhino. Lunch is a picnic on the crater floor. In the late afternoon, drive up and out, then about an hour down to your lodge for the night.
Spend your last morning near Lake Manyara. Choose a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, where the groundwater forest gives way to open shoreline with baboons, elephants, giraffes and water birds, or a guided bike ride or walk through Mto wa Mbu village, with stops at farms and local businesses. After lunch, drive about two hours back to Arusha or to the airport for your onward flight.
Per person in US dollars. The price depends on when you travel and how many travelers share the trip.

The Serengeti is huge, and most of the drive in and out happens on arrival and departure days. Three nights give you two full days on the plains with no long transfer, which means more time with lions, cheetahs and the herds, and the freedom to wait at a good sighting rather than move on.
A mix. You stay at an upscale hotel in Arusha, an upscale lodge or tented camp in the central Serengeti and on the Ngorongoro Crater rim, and comfortable mid-range tented and lodge stays near Tarangire and Lake Manyara. Tell us if you would like every night at the same level and we will adjust the quote.
It depends on the month. The herds are on the move all year, and the central Serengeti sits between their southern and northern ranges, so they may pass nearby at certain times. Resident wildlife and big cats are present year-round. Tell us your travel dates and we will explain what to expect.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
Had a wonderful Safari experience in Nothern Tanzania. Got to see some Lions very closely. Best experience in a very long time tbh.
