8-Day Calving Season Safari
Arusha Tarangire Lake Manyara Ndutu Serengeti Ngorongoro

Tanzania safari
Built with couples and honeymooners in mind, this is the most indulgent of our eight-day trips, with only three beds in seven nights. One night at a lodge among the coffee rows outside Arusha, two at a lavish lodge on the very edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, then four in a luxury camp in the Grumeti area on the western side of the Serengeti, reached by light aircraft.
The Grumeti section is where the trip stands apart. Activities here go beyond the vehicle: morning and afternoon game drives, guided walks, a community visit, archery and evenings under clear night skies. The area is known for big cats, large herds of elephant and buffalo, and rich birdlife. From about May to late July, the migrating wildebeest often move through this part of the ecosystem, which makes those months a strong choice.
Before that, the crater rim gives you two nights to enjoy one of Africa’s great views and a full day exploring the crater floor with a private guide. Tanzania Tourism Safaris tailors every element, so you can swap a lodge, add nights or finish with a few days on a Zanzibar beach.
After a private meet and greet at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you are driven to a lodge set on a working coffee estate just outside Arusha. It is a calm place to land after a long flight. Book a treatment at the spa, swim in the pool or walk through the gardens and coffee plantings. Dinner is at the lodge, and your guide stops by to go over the plan for tomorrow.
Leave Arusha after breakfast and drive west with your guide, climbing from the Rift Valley into the forested Ngorongoro highlands. Your lodge sits right on the rim, with suites that look straight down into the caldera. Spend the afternoon settling in, then watch the light change over the crater floor from your room or the terrace as the evening cools.
Descend into the crater early for a full day of guided game viewing. All of the Big Five live here, and black rhino are seen more reliably than in most parks. Look for lions, hyenas, jackals and servals among herds of wildebeest, zebra and buffalo, and scan the soda lake for flamingos. After a picnic lunch on the floor, return to the rim for a second night.
Today you swap the highlands for the western Serengeti, flying by light aircraft to the Grumeti area. Your camp guide meets you at the airstrip. Each suite has a large bed, a bathroom with views and a private veranda for watching the sunset. After lunch, set out on your first afternoon game drive in this private corner of the Serengeti ecosystem.
The rhythm of camp life takes over. Head out early when the predators are most active and return for brunch, then rest through the heat of the day. The afternoon drive runs into the golden hour. Grumeti holds plenty of big cats, large herds of buffalo and elephant, and in season the migrating wildebeest and zebra. Keep binoculars close for the birdlife.
Step out of the vehicle for a guided walking safari. On foot, you notice what a drive passes by: tracks in the sand, dung that tells a story, insects, birdsong and the plants people use. Your walking guide keeps you at a safe distance from larger animals. Spend the afternoon on another drive or simply relax on your veranda. Neutral colors and closed walking shoes are best for the morning outing.
Use your last full day to mix things up. Join a visit to a nearby community to learn about local life, try your hand at archery at camp, or take one more game drive in search of anything still missing from your list. After dinner, the camp’s stargazing session is a fine way to end the trip, picking out constellations far from any town.
Enjoy a final breakfast overlooking the plains and, if time allows, a short early drive. Then transfer to the airstrip for your light-aircraft flight back toward Arusha, where you connect with your onward journey. Soft-sided bags travel best on these small aircraft. If you would like to add beach days on Zanzibar, tell us and we will arrange the connection.

Grumeti lies on the western side of the Serengeti ecosystem, next to the national park. Its private reserves allow activities that go beyond the usual game drive. Guided walks, community visits, archery and stargazing are all possible here, alongside morning and afternoon game drives.
The herds usually pass through the western Serengeti between about May and late July, so those months give the best chance of seeing them from Grumeti. Outside that window, the area still has resident big cats, elephants, buffalo and plenty of plains game. Tell us your dates and we will set honest expectations.
It was designed and priced with two adults traveling together in mind, which is why it works well as a honeymoon. Families and groups are welcome too; we simply suggest suitable rooms or alternative lodges, and we can change the number of nights to fit.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
Had a wonderful Safari experience in Nothern Tanzania. Got to see some Lions very closely. Best experience in a very long time tbh.
It was an amazing experience!
