9-Day Serengeti & Rubondo Island

Tanzania safari
Four nights on safari and four on the beach: this honeymoon gives equal weight to both. After a night in a five-star hotel in Arusha, you fly to the Serengeti instead of driving, which turns a long road day into an hour in the air and leaves you two full days on the plains. A drive across the Ngorongoro highlands follows, with a night near the crater rim and an early start the next morning to reach the crater floor before it gets busy.
That same afternoon you fly to Zanzibar, where an all-inclusive luxury beach resort is home for the rest of the trip. With meals and drinks covered, there is nothing to plan: swim, snorkel, sail or do nothing at all.
Tanzania Tourism Safaris adds a few touches for newlyweds along the way, such as a room welcome of bubbly, fruit or flowers, a private breakfast and a lantern-lit dinner. Domestic flights, park fees and airport transfers are part of the price, so the only flights you book yourselves are the international ones.
Your driver meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport for the transfer to Arusha, which usually takes under an hour. Check in to your hotel, where gardens and a pool make it easy to shake off the long flight. Nothing is scheduled today. Arusha sits at the foot of Mount Meru, and on a clear evening you may see its peak above the town. A good dinner and an early night set you up for tomorrow’s flight.
After breakfast, transfer to Arusha’s airport for the roughly one-hour flight to the Serengeti. Your guide meets you at the airstrip, and game viewing begins right away. The plains are home to lions, cheetahs, elephants and giraffes and, depending on the month, large herds of wildebeest and zebras. Reach your lodge for lunch, rest through the midday heat, then head out again as the light softens in the late afternoon.
Spend the whole day exploring with your guide. Leave early to catch predators while they are active, take a picnic lunch under a shady acacia, and stay out as long as you like. Granite kopjes rise from the grass and often shelter lions or a resting leopard. Hippo pools, open grassland stretching to the horizon and enormous skies make this the heart of the safari. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and a drink by the fire.
Enjoy a last morning game drive in the Serengeti, then set off toward Ngorongoro, looking for wildlife on the way out of the park. The road climbs from the dry plains into cool, forested highlands, passing Maasai settlements and grazing cattle. Your lodge is close to the crater rim, which means a short drive to the descent road in the morning. Evenings at this altitude are chilly, so expect a fire and a warm blanket.
Start early to be among the first vehicles down the crater wall. The floor is a natural enclosure for buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, lions and hyenas, and it is one of the few places in Tanzania to look for black rhino. After the game drive, there may be time for a short visit to a Maasai community. Then transfer to the airport for the one-hour flight to Zanzibar, where a driver meets you and takes you to your beach resort.
Wake to the sound of the sea. Today is for doing as little as you like: a long breakfast, a swim, a nap in the shade of the palms. Walk the beach and watch local fishermen bring in their catch on wooden boats. With meals and drinks included, you can eat whenever hunger strikes. In the evening, ask the resort about the private lantern-lit dinner that comes as part of your honeymoon touches.
If you feel like some activity, Zanzibar’s reefs lie close to shore in many places, and the resort can arrange snorkeling or a sail on a traditional dhow. Look for parrotfish, angelfish and, with luck, a sea turtle. Back on land, the pool and beach loungers are waiting. Late afternoon is the best time for photographs, when the water shifts from turquoise to gold and the dhows head home under sail.
Keep your last full day open. Book a spa treatment if your resort has a spa, read on the beach, or take one more swim in the warm, shallow water. Couples who want a change of scene can arrange a half-day trip to Stone Town, the old quarter of Zanzibar City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on request. Finish with a sunset drink and dinner at the resort, and start choosing which photographs go on the wall at home.
After breakfast, enjoy the beach until it is time to leave. A private transfer takes you to Zanzibar’s international airport in good time for your flight home. If your flight leaves late in the day, ask us in advance about a late check-out. Our team stays reachable around the clock until you are on your way, so a delay or change at the airport is handled for you.
Per person in US dollars. The price depends on when you travel and how many travelers share the trip.
| Season | 1 traveler | 2 travelers | 4 travelers | 6 travelers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low season 1 Mar – 31 May | $8,888 | $5,925 | $5,434 | $5,241 |
| High season 1 Nov – 20 Dec and 6 Jan – 29 Feb | $9,356 | $6,237 | $5,720 | $5,517 |
| Peak season Now 1 Jun – 31 Oct and 21 Dec – 5 Jan | $10,395 | $6,930 | $6,355 | $6,130 |
Both domestic flights take about an hour: Arusha to the Serengeti on day 2, and from northern Tanzania to Zanzibar on day 5. They use small aircraft, so pack in a soft bag rather than a hard suitcase. Exact flight times are confirmed closer to travel, and your road transfers are arranged around them.
Your meals and a range of drinks are included, so you can eat and drink without signing a bill each time. The exact terms vary by resort; premium drinks or specialty restaurants may cost extra. Paid excursions such as diving or a Stone Town tour are separate, and we can book them for you.
For most travelers, yes. The crater floor is compact, and a morning there covers the main habitats: the soda lake, the swamps and the open grassland. Starting early from a lodge near the rim gives you the quietest hours. Day 5 is long, with the crater, a drive and a flight, so plan a slow first evening on Zanzibar.
Yes, extra nights on Zanzibar are easy to add, and we will update your quote. The from price of $5,241 per person is for a group of six in the March to May low season; a couple traveling on their own pays more per person, and rates rise from June to October and over the holidays.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
Had a wonderful Safari experience in Nothern Tanzania. Got to see some Lions very closely. Best experience in a very long time tbh.
It was an amazing experience!
