8-Day Signature Tanzania Safari

Tanzania safari
Most northern Tanzania safaris save the Serengeti for last. This honeymoon turns the usual order around. On your first full day you drive straight out to the Serengeti and settle for three nights at a tented camp among the Moru Kopjes, granite outcrops rising from the grass where lion prides rest in the shade. With the longest drive behind you early, the rest of the trip gets gentler as it goes.
From the plains you climb to a lodge on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, which puts you on the crater floor ahead of most vehicles the next morning. Two nights near Lake Manyara follow, with time for game drives, a sundowner by the lake or simply your own room. A last morning in Tarangire, among its baobabs and elephants, rounds things off before the drive back to Arusha.
Everything travels by road, and meals come with drinks. Tanzania Tourism Safaris adds honeymoon touches such as a welcome in your room and a lantern-lit dinner.
A member of our team welcomes you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drives you to your lodge on the quiet edge of Arusha. The town lies between two mountains, Meru close by and Kilimanjaro farther east. Your lodge is a small, green retreat with only a few chalets set around a garden, so the evening is peaceful. Have dinner, then turn in early: tomorrow is the longest drive of the trip.
Leave after an early breakfast. The road crosses the Rift Valley, climbs over the green Ngorongoro highlands and drops onto the open Serengeti plains; with stops, the trip takes most of the day. Once inside the park, the drive turns into a game drive as you head for the Moru Kopjes. Arrive at your tented camp in the afternoon, settle in, and watch the sun go down over the grass.
Spend the day in the classic safari rhythm: out at first light, back to camp for a late breakfast and a rest through the hot hours, then out again in the afternoon. Your guide will stop for coffee at sunrise and a cold drink at sunset in a good spot. The kopjes give lions shade during the day, and elephants, giraffes, buffalo and gazelles live in the area year-round.
Today, try a full-day drive with a picnic, which lets you travel farther from camp and stay with a sighting as long as you like. The Moru area lies on the migration route, and the wildebeest and zebra herds often pass through as they leave the southern plains, usually around May and June, depending on the rains. Return to camp for a last dinner under the Serengeti sky.
Enjoy an early breakfast and a morning game drive near camp, then begin the journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, looking for wildlife as you leave the Serengeti. The road climbs into cool, forested highlands, and your lodge sits right on the rim of the crater, with views down to the floor far below. Watch the light change across the caldera before dinner.
Because you are already on the rim, you can be among the first down the crater wall, when animals are most active. Spend the day on the floor looking for black rhino, elephants with large tusks, lions and flamingos on the soda lake. Romantic extras, such as a rim walk with sparkling wine or a village visit, can be arranged at extra cost. In the evening, drive down to Lake Manyara.
A slower day. Lake Manyara National Park is a mix of soda lake, thick woodland and the steep wall of the Rift Valley. Take game drives in the morning and afternoon, looking for elephants and the park’s tree-climbing lions, and finish with a sundowner near the lake. A couples massage, a night drive, or a bike ride or walk to a nearby village can be arranged on request.
After an early breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park for a half-day game drive. Big elephant families gather around the river here, and huge baobab trees stand across the landscape. Around midday, leave the park for the drive back to Arusha, which takes about two hours, and on to the airport for your flight home. Your honeymoon safari ends here.
Per person in US dollars. The price depends on when you travel and how many travelers share the trip.
| Season | 1 traveler | 2 travelers | 4 travelers | 6 travelers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low season 1 Mar – 31 May | $6,802 | $4,535 | $4,022 | $3,851 |
| High season 1 Nov – 20 Dec and 6 Jan – 29 Feb | $7,161 | $4,774 | $4,234 | $4,054 |
| Peak season Now 1 Jun – 31 Oct and 21 Dec – 5 Jan | $7,957 | $5,305 | $4,705 | $4,505 |
Doing the longest drive on day 2, while you are fresh, means the days get shorter as the trip goes on. You end with short drives, a quiet stay near Lake Manyara and a half-day in Tarangire, close to Arusha, so the last day is not a rush to the airport.
The distance is roughly 350 km (220 miles), and with stops it takes most of the day. The route is scenic, crossing the Rift Valley and the Ngorongoro highlands, and the last part is a game drive inside the park. If you would rather fly, we can quote for a light-aircraft flight instead.
No. All travel inside Tanzania is by road in your safari vehicle, which keeps the cost down and lets you see the countryside. The only flights are your international ones in and out of Kilimanjaro International Airport.
That figure is the lowest per-person rate, for a group of six in the March to May low season. A couple on a private trip pays more per person, and rates climb from November to February and again from June to October and over Christmas and New Year.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
