2-Day Tarangire & Lake Manyara Safari

Day trip
Lake Manyara National Park is a narrow strip of wild country squeezed between the steep wall of the Great Rift Valley and a broad, shallow soda lake. In a single day you pass through several quite different worlds: a tall, shady forest fed by underground springs, open grassland running down to the water, and a shoreline where wading birds gather in the shallows.
Because the park is compact and the drive from Arusha takes about two hours, it suits travelers who want a real game drive without a very long day in the vehicle. Expect baboon troops along the forest road, elephants browsing among the trees, buffalo and zebra on the open flats, and hippos lying low in the water. Lions here are known for sometimes resting in the branches of acacias, though a sighting is never certain.
Tanzania Tourism Safaris runs this trip in a 4×4 Land Cruiser with an English-speaking local guide, and it goes ahead even with a single traveler. Lunch is a picnic inside the park, and on the way home there is time for a short stop in one of the villages along the road before you are dropped back at your hotel.
After an early breakfast at your hotel, your guide collects you in Arusha and heads west across the plains, with the Rift Valley wall growing on the horizon. Inside the park gate the road dips straight into the forest, where baboons and blue monkeys move through the tall trees. Later you drive out onto the grassy floodplain toward the lakeshore to look for elephants, giraffes, buffalo and water birds. Lunch is a packed picnic at one of the park’s picnic sites. In the late afternoon you leave the park, pause at a local village to meet the people who live along the road, then return to Arusha.

Possibly, but nobody can promise it. Lions in Manyara are known for lying up in acacia branches, yet they are often hard to find in the thick cover. The park’s elephants, baboons, buffalo and birdlife are far more reliable, so the day is rewarding even without a lion in a tree.
No. Flamingo numbers on Lake Manyara rise and fall with the water level and the season, and some months there are few or none. Pelicans, storks, herons and other water birds are usually present, so bring binoculars either way.
Yes. It is one of the closer northern parks to Arusha, the roads are short and varied, and the change from forest to open lakeshore keeps the day interesting. It works well as a taste of safari before a longer trip or as an add-on after a climb.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
Had a wonderful Safari experience in Nothern Tanzania. Got to see some Lions very closely. Best experience in a very long time tbh.
It was an amazing experience!
