Overview

Staying on Zanzibar and wondering whether you can fit in a safari? This short trip is the answer for travelers with only two days to spare. You fly from the island to Arusha in the morning, spend the afternoon among the elephants of Tarangire National Park, sleep at a lodge near Lake Manyara, and spend the next morning on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater before flying back to Zanzibar the same day. It is a compact way to add Tanzania’s mainland wildlife to a beach holiday without giving up more than one night on the coast.

The return domestic flights between Zanzibar and Arusha are included in the price, along with your guide, the 4×4 Land Cruiser, park fees, one night’s accommodation and the meals listed.

Tanzania Tourism Safaris runs the trip privately, so the vehicle and guide are yours alone. The days are long and start early, but you return to the beach having seen two of northern Tanzania’s best-known wildlife areas.

Questions about this safari

Are the flights from Zanzibar included?

Yes. The price includes the return domestic flights from Zanzibar to Arusha and back. International flights are not included. The flight to Arusha leaves early on Day 1, so plan to be at Zanzibar’s airport in good time; ask us about a pickup from your hotel.

Is two days too rushed for a safari?

It is a full two days with early starts, long drives and two flights, so it suits travelers who would rather see the highlights quickly than miss them entirely. If you can spare more time, ask us about adding a night so the crater morning is less hurried.

What wildlife can I expect in such a short time?

Tarangire is reliable for elephants, plus giraffe, zebra and buffalo. The Ngorongoro Crater floor holds a dense concentration of wildlife, including lion, hyena, wildebeest and hippo, and it is one of the few places in Tanzania where black rhino are seen. Sightings always depend on luck and the season.
