7-Day Great Migration Safari

Tanzania safari
Seven days, two very different kinds of quiet. This honeymoon begins in Nyerere National Park, the wild southern reserve that was once part of the Selous, where the Rufiji River winds past sandbanks, lakes and long stretches of open bush. You fly in by light aircraft, so there are no long road transfers, and you spend three nights at a luxury camp where the days can include game drives, a guided walk and, at some camps, a boat trip among hippos and crocodiles.
A short flight then takes you to Zanzibar for three nights at a luxury beach lodge. Mornings are for the water: snorkeling, kayaking or a picnic on a sandbank at low tide. Afternoons are yours, and many couples simply swim, read and wait for the evening.
Tanzania Tourism Safaris arranges the whole trip privately for the two of you, with a resident English-speaking guide on safari, a meet-and-greet at every airport, and small honeymoon touches such as a welcome bottle of bubbly, a private breakfast and a lantern-lit dinner. Southern Tanzania sees far fewer visitors than the northern parks, which makes it a good match for couples who value space and privacy.
Your guide meets you at the airport and sees you onto a light-aircraft flight south to an airstrip inside Nyerere National Park. From the air you can trace the brown loops of the Rufiji River and the lakes that lie beside it. A camp vehicle collects you for the short drive to camp, where lunch is waiting. Rest through the heat of the day, then head out on your first game drive in the late afternoon, when giraffes, impala and elephants move toward water. Dinner is served under the stars.
Set out early, while the air is cool and predators are still active. Nyerere is one of the better places in Tanzania to look for African wild dogs, and lions, buffalo and large herds of impala are common. Back at camp, take a long brunch and a rest. In the afternoon, swap the vehicle for your own feet: a ranger and your guide lead a bush walk, reading tracks, dung and the small details you miss from a car. You return in time for a drink as the light fades.
Where your camp offers it, spend the morning in a small boat on the river or one of the lakes. Hippos surface near the bow, crocodiles lie on the banks, and kingfishers, fish eagles and herons work the shallows. Anglers can try catch-and-release fishing. After lunch the afternoon is free: a nap, the pool if your camp has one, or one last game drive. Your final evening in the bush is a good moment for a private dinner set apart from the main camp.
Enjoy an early coffee and perhaps a short final drive before your flight to Zanzibar. The hop is brief, and on landing a driver takes you to your beach lodge, roughly half an hour away. Check in, change into something light and go straight to the water. The afternoon is unplanned on purpose: after three early starts, the best thing to do is very little. In the evening, sit out on the sand with a drink and watch the sky change color over the sea.
Take a boat out to one of the sandbanks that appear off the Zanzibar coast at low tide, with a picnic lunch packed by the lodge. The water around them is clear and shallow, so snorkeling is easy even for beginners, and you may see starfish, reef fish and small rays. If you dive, the lodge can arrange a dive with a local center; if you would rather stay dry, a kayak is a calm way to explore the shoreline. Dinner is back at the lodge.
Spend your last full day learning something about the island. Lodges here often offer a Swahili cooking class, where you grind spices, cook coconut rice and learn the dishes served along this coast. Another option is a palm-weaving lesson with local women, who turn dried fronds into mats and baskets. Fishing trips and water sports are also possible. Keep the evening free for a lantern-lit dinner for two, one of the honeymoon touches included in this trip.
Breakfast is unhurried. Depending on your flight time, there may be one last swim and lunch before a private transfer to the airport. Your international flight home can leave from Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro, and the final transfer is planned around it. Our team is on call around the clock until you are checked in, so a delayed or changed flight is handled for you rather than left for you to sort out.

Nyerere lies in the south, away from the busy northern circuit, so you share sightings with fewer vehicles. It also offers things most Serengeti camps do not, such as guided walks and boat trips on the Rufiji River and its lakes. If your heart is set on the wildebeest migration, the Serengeti is the better fit, and we can quote that instead.
Yes. Small bush planes usually limit each traveler to a soft-sided bag of around 15 to 20 kg (33 to 44 lb), and the exact limit depends on the airline. Hard suitcases are hard to load, so pack in a duffel. We will confirm the allowance for your flights when we send your final itinerary.
Game drives, the guided walk, park fees, and the meals and drinks listed each day are included. On Zanzibar, the lodge offers a range of water and cultural activities. Tell us which ones you have in mind, such as scuba diving or a fishing trip, so your quote shows clearly whether each is covered or paid on the spot.
The from price of $6,088 per person applies in the lowest-cost season, March to May, for a group of six. A private trip for two costs more per person, and June to October and the year-end holidays are the busiest, most expensive dates. Send us your travel dates and we will reply with an exact quote.

Excellent Trip of a Lifetime
Our family had the trip of a lifetime over the holidays. Our guides were amazing and always checked to make sure that we had everything we needed. In less than 2 weeks we got to do a short safari in Ngorongoro Crater, did a family visit as part of the cultural experience (my kids are still talking about how good the food was!!), visited Moshi for shopping, went to Dar Es Salaam and did a 2 day trip to Zanzibar. The logistics were all very smooth and the guides added humor and levity to the entire trip. We were in good hands and will never forget the hospitality shown to us while there. The best thing about the packages is that you can work with the team to tailor it to your exact timeline. We had to get back to work and school so opted for a short Christmas trip but we'll eventually go back to do a longer summer trip. Forever indebted for such a great experience!
Trip of a life time!! But why not go back?
BEST VACATION!!!! Eye opening, amazing, Beautiful and REAL. The safari was my favorite part. Seeing animals you learn about and dream of seeing right in front of your face. The food was great I ask you to be open and not get your norm. Safe? Yes. Of course there’s times you question a new country, area and people. There was never a moment I was in question of people or my surroundings. Next time I’m bring my kids they’re older and can help pay… hahaha. I heard it’s best not to go during the rainy Season it’s just easier and more enjoyable to get around. Just what people have said.
Great experience
Had a wonderful Safari experience in Nothern Tanzania. Got to see some Lions very closely. Best experience in a very long time tbh.
It was an amazing experience!
